Merredin College has proudly celebrated NAIDOC Week, recognising and honouring the rich histories, cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

To open the week, we welcomed Mick Hayden Snr, who conducted a traditional Smoking Ceremony before the annual football match between the Yongkas and the Waalitj’s.

Throughout the week, students immersed themselves in Aboriginal culture through a range of engaging activities, including making and enjoying damper, participating in storytime sessions, and creating artwork in their classrooms.

Several classes also had the opportunity to visit Merredin Peak for an on-Country experience led by Njaki Njaki Tours, providing a meaningful opportunity to connect with Country, culture and community.

We are grateful to everyone who has contributed to making this year’s NAIDOC Week celebrations such a memorable and enriching experience for our students.

Our NAIDOC Week celebrations concluded with a special Closing Assembly featuring student awards, a traditional didgeridoo performance.
