NAIDOC Week
With some last minute venue changes due to inclement weather, Monday saw the opening of NAIDOC week at Merredin College with an assembly in the primary canteen for staff, students and community members. It was a fantastic display of our local Aboriginal students’ culture and pride in their identity. The canteen was visibly shaking as Mrs Adamson roused the primary students to sing and dance to songs such as Nidja Noonga Koort Boodja and Marryunna; and our boys and girls dancers impressed the audience with their fantastic dance routines.
This week has also seen other activities happening in our classrooms such as damper-making, dreamtime stories, face-painting and a Netball match between our Shooting Stars girls and the Merredin Youth Committee.
The week came to a conclusion with the annual NAIDOC Cup football match between the Yongkas and Waarlitj’s on Friday afternoon.
