Year 3 – Term 2

What a busy and productive term it has been in our classroom!
We kicked off the term with great excitement as we began preparations for our class assembly item. The students put in a wonderful effort and were proud to be hosts.
In Mathematics, we took advantage of the lovely weather before the winter chill arrived. Our learning moved outdoors for some engaging hands-on activities, including estimating and measuring the capacity of containers in millilitres and testing the length of our paper ball throws. These practical experiences helped bring our measurement skills to life!
In HASS, we explored the themes of celebrations and commemorations through picture books and writing tasks. This helped deepen our understanding of how people and communities recognise significant events.
We were also lucky to welcome Mrs Ballantyne, who joined our class for five weeks while completing her teaching practice. During this time, we explored the elements of a news report and applied our learning by writing and publishing our own articles during computer time.
One of the highlights of the term was our integrated STEM unit. We read the picture book The Little Refugee to learn about the refugee experience and reasons why people migrate to Australia. From there, we investigated the structure and materials of shoes, testing various materials for their properties. Using this knowledge, we planned and created our own shoes out of recycled materials. This was a fun (and sometimes tricky) challenge that required teamwork, creativity and perseverance.
We are incredibly proud of all that we have accomplished this term and look forward to more exciting learning ahead!
