Follow the Dream Year 8-10 Pathways Camp Adventure

This term, our Year 8–10 students from Northam SHS, Central Midlands SHS, Merredin College, and Cunderdin DHS—part of the Polly Farmer Follow the Dream programs—embarked on an unforgettable 3-day Pathways Camp!

Day 1 kicked off with a powerful yarn with Johnny Garlett near Kaarta Gar-up in Kings Park. He shared stories of Whadjuk Noongar Country, his family history, future aspirations, and even treated us to a didgeridoo performance. The group then took on team-building challenges with Teamworks Development Australia—pushing boundaries, building trust, and even taking the leap (literally!) with the pole top ‘leap of faith’!

Day 2 was all about exploring futures. Students visited the Perth Careers Expo, connecting with over 100 organisations and employers. Then it was off to North Metropolitan TAFE in Northbridge to meet the Koolark team, tour the campus, and explore hands-on learning—especially the simulated underground mine! The day wrapped up at the Construction Futures Centre, where students got hands-on with interactive exhibits and learned about careers in building and construction.

Day 3 brought us to Murdoch University, where students explored criminology, toured the beautiful campus, checked out student accommodation, and visited the Kulbardi Aboriginal Centre. A perfect way to wrap up three days of inspiration, learning, and connection.

A huge shoutout to all the students for their enthusiasm and courage, and to everyone who helped make this camp such a memorable experience. Here’s to dreaming big and following those dreams!

Many thanks to the Noongar Charitable Trust for generously assisting with the funding for this important camp.
