Bringing Characters to Life with Author/Illustrator James Foley

Bringing Characters to Life with Author/Illustrator James Foley

This week, our Year 2-6 students had an exciting opportunity to participate in an interactive online workshop with renowned author and illustrator James Foley! Thanks to the State Library of WA’s online workshops for regional schools, our students had front-row seats to a behind-the-scenes look at the creative process of a professional illustrator.

James Foley shared his super-secret drawing tips, teaching students how to bring their characters to life using shape, colour, facial expressions, body language, and costume design. With his expert guidance, students explored how to create believable, exciting characters for their own stories.

Throughout the session, students watched in awe as James demonstrated how he develops his quirky and lovable characters. Inspired by his techniques, our budding artists eagerly picked up their pencils and had a go at designing their own kooky characters – and the results were fantastic!

This was an unforgettable experience for our students, sparking their creativity and giving them valuable insight into the world of illustration.
