Year 6 Health, Wellbeing and Resilience Forum

The objectives of the forums are to:
• Improve young people’s knowledge of the harm that drugs and alcohol can cause to self and others.
• Develop an understanding of the law.
• Increase awareness of the available support networks for students in their local community.
• Increasing awareness of wellbeing strategies that students can use as alternatives to drugs, alcohol and self-harm.

During the Year 6 health, wellbeing and resilience forum, we participated in a variety of engaging and meaningful activities with students from other schools in the area.
In the first session at the rec centre, we were placed into colour-coded groups and rotated through different stations. One activity was called “Feel It, Paint It”, which focused on expressing emotions through art. Another task was “Do It, Dream It”, where we practiced goal setting and teamwork by building the tallest tower we could. Although my group didn’t win, I still had fun and felt happy.
We also did a “Vape Escape” challenge, which taught us about the dangers of vaping. We started by sorting out items related to vaping and learning why they’re harmful.
In another lesson, we learned about the dangers of smoking and vaping, including the effects of tar and second-hand smoke. We discussed alcohol and decision-making in “Think Before You Sip” and how alcohol affects the body.
We talked about relationships—what makes a good person and friend—and how to support each other. We learned that healthy relationships are built on kindness, helpfulness, and being there for others.
One of our final lessons was called “Stronger Together”. It focused on belonging, resilience, and giving younger students a voice. It showed how important it is to include others and let everyone have a say.
We also practiced mindfulness in a session called “Zen in Your Seat”, where we learned tools to look after ourselves and stay focused.
These health lessons were a lot of fun and taught us important life skills.
Best time ever! 😊
