Year 7/8 CoRE Hopetoun Field Trip

Year 7/8 CoRE Hopetoun Field Trip

The Year 7/8 CoRE class recently visited Hopetoun as part of their main assessment for this term, to complete a ‘Field Trip Report’. This was a great opportunity to consolidate and apply concepts learnt in class in a real life setting and further expand their knowledge, while developing critical thinking, collaboration, and communication skills.

Students also visited Wave Rock, Fitzgerald River National Park and Cave Point as part of their exploration. Accommodation for the camp was the Hopetoun Beachside Caravan Park, where we were able to enjoy some relaxation time, beach games and a spot of fishing.

Students learnt about the collision of three continents and the formation of rocks and minerals. They enjoyed hunting for Kyanite and Staurolite.
Investigating the impact of weathering and erosion on schist, mica and garnet.
Students tackled a steep climb up East Mount Barren, where they were engulfed in clouds, while reflecting on their learning and experience of the field trip.
Way above the ocean, students admired the view while learning about the rock formations at Cave Point.
