Volleyball WA Schools Cup 2026 saw Merredin College send 7 teams to represent the MC Volleyball Program in Perth. The week started off with the Year 7 and 8 boys’ and girls’ teams. The excitement was high with anticipation for all teams, excited to see what the day would bring. This year, our fabulous coaches were accompanied by student coaches, where current students sign up to inspire and mentor the younger students in the program and pass on their knowledge. Thank you to Ms Walker & Jacob Billing (Y7B), Miss Miller & Alexis Kermode (Y7G), Miss Kernaghan & Kaitlyn Kittyea (Y8B), and Mrs Flintham (Y8G) for their efforts in the lead up to the competition, and for showcasing such professionalism on the day. All teams fought hard, worked together and displayed great sportsmanship.

Congratulations to the Year 7 boys who remained undefeated the whole competition and coming home with gold, and the Year 8 girls, who only had 6 players, persisting through and adding another gold medal for our trophy cabinet. Congratulations to Jobe Walker and Ari Herbert for receiving the grand final MVP awards for the grand final games. The Year 7 girls and Year 8 boys fought hard, just shy of making playoffs with the girls finishing 7^th and the boy’s finishing 6^th overall.

The following day, Mr James took the Year 9 girls and Mr Gardiner took a combined Year 9/10 boys’ team to compete. Both teams were in A division meaning the competition was tough but nothing our teams couldn’t handle. Fighting hard, the Year 9 girls came second in their pool, unfortunately just missing the playoffs and finishing 6^th overall. The Year 9/10 boys team played well as a group and finished 4^th overall. Once again, the teamwork, enthusiasm, sportsmanship and professionalism by Merredin College students was showcased greatly.

The week ended with Mrs Silver and Miss Kernaghan taking the Year 11/12 combined girls team to compete. It was an emotional day for these girls, as it was the last time they would all play together since Year 7 when joining the program. For a final time the girls managed to work together flawlessly and finished second in their pool, just shy of missing playoffs resulting in 6^th overall.

Once again, a big thank you to the coaches and student coaches involved, the parents who provide their ongoing support to the Merredin College Volleyball Program and to Miss Kernaghan for being the program coordinator and giving the students an opportunity to compete.
